Consumer spending in Saudi Arabia held firm during the week ending 5 September 2026, with domestic point-of-sale transactions reaching SR 15.8 billion (about US$4.2 billion), The figure covers in-store card payments only and excludes cash withdrawals and other spending components.
The value of point-of-sale transactions edged up 0.2% from the previous week, while the number of transactions climbed 4.8% to 267.75 million. The rise in volume alongside a steady value points to more frequent, smaller purchases across the market.
Demand at record levels
The weekly snapshot reflects a broader structural rise in domestic demand. Total consumer spending, measured through national accounts, reached SAR 551,187 million in the second quarter of 2026, up from SAR 541,331 million in the first quarter and the highest quarterly level on record since 2010. The average quarterly figure between 2010 and 2026 stood at about SAR 397,214 million, underlining how sharply demand has grown.
Monthly data confirms the trend. February 2026 spending totalled SAR 133.5 billion, up 8% year-on-year, while June 2026 reached SAR 130.14 billion, up 6%. Point-of-sale sales alone hit SAR 57.49 billion in June, a 7% annual increase.
E-commerce continues to be a key driver. Mada e-commerce spending rose about 46% year-on-year in February 2026 to around SAR 30.4 billion, while cash withdrawals fell 3%, a sign of the ongoing shift toward digital and card-based payments.
For residents and businesses, the steady numbers signal a resilient retail environment heading through 2026, supporting shops, restaurants and online sellers across the Kingdom.
