Saudi authorities have begun a phased rollout of an upgraded electronic clearance system designed to speed up cargo handling at major sea, land, and air ports across the Kingdom. The system runs through FASAH, the single-window platform used to submit import and export declarations electronically.
The upgrade supports the goal of completing commercial shipment clearance in 24 hours or less. To achieve this, the 24-hour clearance program relies on pre-submission before arrival, with declarations submitted no later than 48 hours before a shipment reaches a port through FASAH.
How the platform works
FASAH handles electronic customs declarations, shipment tracking, and agency approvals, and allows payment of customs duties and value-added tax through integrated channels. A broader clearance initiative also requires participating government agencies to respond within two hours after a request is received electronically for eligible consignments.
For businesses and traders, faster clearance means shorter wait times at ports, more predictable delivery schedules, and lower storage and demurrage costs. Residents may notice smoother availability of imported goods as the process becomes more streamlined.
Saudi Living notes that publicly available material describes the platform and its process rather than a fixed fee schedule for the upgraded clearance system, and does not specify updated validity periods for a customs clearance license tied to this rollout. Importers and clearance agents are encouraged to review requirements before submitting shipments.
