Saudi E-Commerce Sales Index Rises 9.8% in Q2 2026

Saudi Arabia's e-commerce sales index rose 9.8% year-on-year in the second quarter of 2026 compared with the same period of 2025, reflecting continued momentum in the Kingdom's digital commerce and non-oil economic activity.

The growth was driven largely by retail trade, where e-commerce activity climbed 13.4% year-on-year. Wholesale e-commerce trade increased 6.5%, while e-commerce sales for the sale and repair of motor vehicles rose 2.4% over the same period.

On a quarter-on-quarter basis, compared with the first quarter of 2026, the figures showed modest gains. The retail e-commerce sales index advanced 1.1%, the wholesale index edged up 0.3%, and the motor vehicles index rose 0.1%.

The operating revenues index for wholesale and retail trade increased 3.2% year-on-year, though it slipped 0.6% quarter-on-quarter. Meanwhile, the employee compensation index in the sector rose 9% year-on-year, supported by a 10.8% increase in retail trade employee compensation.

Why it matters

For residents and expats in Riyadh, Jeddah and beyond, the steady rise in online shopping activity signals a maturing digital marketplace and expanding options for consumers. The figures form part of the broader official statistics series tracking short-term wholesale and retail trade indicators, measuring activity and revenue changes rather than consumer prices or fees.

The index reports percentage changes in commercial activity and does not introduce any new fees, validity periods, or procedural steps for e-commerce operators.
