The Saudi Electricity Company has signed a cooperation agreement with Bpifrance for project financing aimed at developing and expanding the Kingdom's electricity grid. The agreement was concluded on the sidelines of the Saudi-French Investment Roundtable during the Crown Prince's state visit to France.
Under the agreement, the financing is directed toward strengthening Saudi Arabia's power infrastructure, supporting the Saudi Electricity Company's procurement activities, and advancing strategic electricity projects across the Kingdom.
The cooperation builds on a memorandum of understanding signed in November 2025 between the two parties, which established a financing facility of up to SAR 11.25 billion (about USD 3 billion) for energy-sector projects. A related tripartite understanding involving the Saudi Electricity Company, GE Vernova, and Bpifrance set a financing line of up to USD 3 billion to support projects focused on grid performance, efficiency, and reliability improvements.
The financing mechanism for the agreement involves BNP Paribas and HSBC acting as coordinators of the process, with the goal of broadening the pool of international lenders participating in Saudi grid-related projects.
Why it matters
A more robust and reliable electricity grid supports steady power supply for homes, businesses, and major projects across Saudi Arabia. For residents in Riyadh, Jeddah, and beyond, improved grid performance and reliability translate into stronger infrastructure that underpins daily life and continued economic growth.
The arrangement operates as a corporate and sovereign-backed financing framework rather than a public-facing service. There are no application steps for individuals, and participation is handled through the Saudi Electricity Company and related corporate counterparties. No detailed pricing, fees, or per-project schedules have been made public; only the overall facility size has been disclosed.
