Saudi passport holders have been reminded that once a passport renewal request is submitted and completed, the chosen validity period cannot be changed or extended. Any adjustment would require a new renewal request after the passport expires.
At renewal, Saudi citizens aged 21 years or older may choose between a 5-year or a 10-year passport. Citizens under 21 years can only renew for 5 years. The selected validity is locked in once the request is finalized, so applicants are advised to choose carefully before confirming and paying.
Fees and how to renew
The renewal fee inside the Kingdom is SAR 300 for a 5-year passport and SAR 600 for a 10-year passport. Fees are non-refundable and are paid electronically through government payment channels, including SADAD, bank channels, Mada, Visa, Mastercard, and Apple Pay linked to the e-services platform.
Standard renewals are handled electronically via the Absher platform, without needing to visit a passport office. Citizens log in to their individual account, open the Passports services, select "Renew Saudi Passport," choose the family member and validity if applicable, verify their data, pay the fee, and select delivery or branch pickup. Passports can be delivered by courier or collected free at a branch, avoiding courier charges often estimated at around SAR 50
A passport can typically be renewed up to six months before expiry, and renewal is not allowed if more than six months of validity remain. Data should be checked carefully during renewal, as later corrections may carry a fee of around SAR 100. The reminder matters for residents and travelers planning ahead, helping them select the right validity and avoid unnecessary costs.
