The Saudi benchmark stock index traded largely flat in recent sessions, hovering around 11,260 to 11,270 points on 26 August 2026, as investors weighed weaker economic data against expectations for continued non-oil growth.
Daily moves in the Tadawul All Share Index (TASI) remained modest, in the range of roughly +0.25% to +0.31%, reflecting steady rather than volatile trading. Over 2026 to date, the index has posted single-digit monthly changes and a small overall negative return of about -4% up to mid-August, consistent with investors reassessing the growth outlook.
The cautious mood follows fresh figures showing that Saudi real GDP contracted 4.8% year-on-year in the second quarter of 2026. The decline was driven mainly by a fall of about 24.7% in oil activities, while non-oil activities grew 0.6% and government activities rose 0.9% over the same period.
The picture had been stronger earlier in the year. In the first quarter of 2026, real GDP grew about 2.8% to 3.0% year-on-year, with non-oil activities rising around 2.8% to 2.9%, oil activities up roughly 2.3% to 2.9%, and government activities increasing about 1.5%.
Why it matters
For residents and business owners, the data underline that the non-oil sector remains the key driver of medium-term growth despite the overall contraction tied to lower oil activity. The non-oil economy was the main contributor to first-quarter growth, and analysts continue to view it as central to the Kingdom's economic momentum.
For those trading in listed shares, basic market rules remain unchanged in 2026, including order-based trading and T+2 settlement, with standard brokerage commissions applying. The benchmark index level itself carries no fixed fees or administered prices.
