Saudi Unemployment Falls to 3.1% in Q1 2026

Saudi Arabia's overall unemployment rate declined to 3.1% during the first quarter of 2026, continuing a steady downward trend in the Kingdom's labour market.

The overall rate fell from 3.5% in the fourth quarter of 2025, marking a notable improvement over a single quarter. Among Saudi nationals, the unemployment rate stood at 6.4% in the first quarter of 2026, down 0.8 percentage points compared with the previous quarter.

Why it matters

Lower unemployment figures point to a strengthening job market and expanding employment opportunities across the country. The continued decline in the Saudi-national rate reflects ongoing efforts to bring more citizens into the workforce.

For residents and job seekers, a tighter labour market can signal broader economic activity and greater demand for talent across sectors. The figures also align with wider goals to grow employment and diversify the economy under Saudi Vision 2030.

The back-to-back declines in both the overall and Saudi-national rates suggest that improvements in the labour market are being sustained rather than temporary, offering a positive indicator for households and businesses alike as the year begins.
