Six New Driving Schools Announced Across Saudi Arabia

Six new driving schools were announced on 23 September 2026 for six regions across the Kingdom: Asir, Jazan, الدمام, Hail, Makkah, and Al-Jouf. The announcement identifies the locations only and marks a further expansion of driver training capacity nationwide.

At this stage, no opening dates, school names, addresses, registration links, capacity figures, or operating hours have been published for the six planned schools. No official training-fee schedule has been released either, so exact prices remain unavailable until further details are confirmed.

What stays the same for now

No confirmed changes were announced to licence validity, government fees, or application steps. Private driving licences continue to be issued for 2, 5, or 10 years depending on the payment period chosen. Commonly listed government fees are SAR 40 per year for a private licence — SAR 80 for 2 years, SAR 200 for 5 years, or SAR 400 for 10 years.

The typical process remains unchanged: complete an approved medical examination, register or book an appointment through أبشر, attend the assigned driving school, complete the theory and practical training, and pass the theory, parking, and road tests before paying the applicable fees and receiving the licence.

For residents, a valid Iqama and a linked medical result are generally required. The relevant school or Traffic Directorate decides whether a resident receives an assessment or a full training program. أبشر is used for traffic appointments, licence issuance, renewal, and related payments, while the General Directorate of Traffic and each approved school provide school-specific registration instructions.

The expansion is expected to ease access to certified training in more regions, cutting travel and waiting time for applicants. Saudi Living will share opening dates, fees, and registration details once officially published.
