The Saudi main stock index (TASI) closed lower this week, hovering around the 11,000-point mark as investors booked profits following earlier gains. Recent sessions in early September 2026 saw daily declines of roughly 0.2% to 0.8%, with the index trading near 11,012 to 11,100 points.
The pullback reflected a mix of factors, including profit-taking, uneven corporate earnings, and softer oil prices. Sector performance has been broad but mixed: energy and petrochemical shares remained relatively resilient, while real estate, consumer-focused stocks, banking, and capital markets saw more short-term volatility as investors rotated between sectors.
Trading activity stayed healthy, with total daily turnover on the main market recently in the range of 5 to 5.6 billion ريال سعودي. In active sessions near the 11,000 level, hundreds of stocks advanced while a smaller number declined. One recent trading day saw TASI rise 0.3% to close at 10,954 points on about 5 billion ريال سعودي in traded value, with total market capitalization around 9.6 trillion ريال سعودي, before later sessions near 11,000 registered declines tied to profit-taking.
The index has struggled to hold firmly above 11,000, having traded mostly in the 10,000 to 11,000 band since mid-2025. Over the past year it is up roughly 3% to 4%, still recovering from a steep annual decline of about 12.8% in 2025, when it closed near 10,491 points after topping 12,000 points in late 2024. The parallel market, NOMU, has posted slight declines in some sessions even when the main index gained, pointing to mixed performance across market segments.
For residents and investors, the movements underscore the value of relying on official data. The Saudi Exchange (Tadawul) publishes real-time and end-of-day figures, along with reports such as the Quarterly Statistical Report. Its First Quarter 2026 Statistical Report recorded TASI closing at 11,249.54 points at the end of the period.
