Saudi authorities have set out plans to grow the country's national artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure to one gigawatt of computing capacity by 2030, relying on partnerships between the public and private sectors to reach the target.
The initiative is designed to build the large-scale computing power needed to develop and run advanced AI systems within the Kingdom. Reaching one gigawatt of dedicated capacity would place Saudi Arabia among the countries investing heavily in the digital backbone required for emerging technologies.
Officials indicated that cooperation with private-sector partners will be central to funding, building and operating this infrastructure. Such partnerships are expected to draw on global expertise while creating local capabilities, jobs and services tied to the technology sector.
Why it matters
For residents and businesses across the Kingdom, expanded AI capacity can support faster and smarter digital services, from government platforms to private applications. Stronger local infrastructure also means data and computing resources can be hosted within the country rather than relying solely on facilities abroad.
The plan reflects the wider national push toward economic diversification and technology-driven growth. As the 2030 target approaches, the community can expect to see more investment in data centres, digital services and skilled jobs linked to artificial intelligence.
