Saudi Arabia has opened three major stadium complexes to private-sector investment under its Sports Facilities Investment Project, giving local and international companies the chance to operate and develop some of the Kingdom's largest venues.
The three facilities on offer are King Abdullah Sports City and Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal Sports City, both in Jeddah, along with King Abdulaziz Sports City in Makkah. The investment scope covers stadium naming rights, leasing arrangements for non-match-day use such as events and commercial activities, and full operation, management, and maintenance contracts under a public-private partnership structure.
Standard contracts for the three complexes run for five years and are renewable. A separate tender planned for 2026 in the Makkah region offers three-year operating contracts for King Abdullah Sports City Stadium, Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal Stadium, King Abdulaziz Stadium, and the indoor arena at King Abdullah Sports City.
Who can apply
The project targets specialized local and international companies experienced in sports venue operation, events, and facility management. Eligible investors include sports clubs, private companies, and investment entities capable of running multi-use venues year-round. Bids and proposals are submitted through the government investment portal Furas during designated application windows.
For residents in Jeddah and Makkah, the move points to more year-round use of these stadiums beyond football matches — including concerts, exhibitions, and community events — as private operators look to keep the venues active. The initiative aligns with the Kingdom's broader push to expand private participation across the sports sector.
