The Ministry of Sport, together with the National Center for Privatization and PPP, has launched the third phase of the Sports Clubs Investment and Privatization Project in June 2026, offering five clubs to interested investment entities.
The clubs made available in this phase are Al-Riyadh, Abha, Al-Fateh, Al-Tai, and Al-Shoulla. Investors are invited to submit their expressions of interest and prequalification applications through the investor portal operated by the National Center for Privatization. The deadline for prequalification applications for the five clubs was set for July 5, 2026.
Expressions of interest for acquiring sports clubs remain open under the project's applicable procedures and regulations, giving investors a continued opportunity to take part. Officials have indicated that a club offering process generally takes between eight and ten months once investor interest is formally submitted.
The appetite for involvement has been notable. By June 2026, more than 80 investment interests had been registered across 22 clubs, reflecting growing confidence in the Kingdom's sports sector as a viable investment space.
For the local community, the privatization drive is part of a broader push to strengthen club governance, improve competitiveness, and attract private capital into Saudi sport. For residents and fans in cities home to these clubs, the shift could mean stronger teams, better facilities, and a more sustainable sporting experience over time. Interested investors should refer to the official investor portal for the applicable procedures and regulations.
