Arab Sailing Championship Kicks Off in Jeddah

The 2026 Arab Sailing Championship for the Optimist class kicked off at the Jeddah Sailing Center on South Obhur Beach in جدة, running from 17 to 21 September 2026. The event brings together young sailors aged 8 to 15 from across the Arab world.

The championship is organized by the Saudi Sailing Federation in coordination with the Arab Sailing Federation, with support from the Ministry of Sport and the Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee. Participation includes around 51 to 90 sailors representing 13 Arab countries: Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Libya, Morocco, Oman, Qatar, Sudan, Tunisia, the United Arab Emirates, and Saudi Arabia.

The competition follows a set format. The opening day on 17 September is dedicated to registration, equipment inspection, and a practice race. On 18 September, sailors compete in the Arab Cup team racing. Individual fleet racing runs from 19 to 21 September alongside medal-deciding team matches, wrapping up with an awards ceremony and closing celebration on 21 September.

A hub for sailing in Jeddah

The Jeddah Sailing Center hosts educational and training programs in sailing throughout the year, giving interested individuals the chance to learn the basics and develop their skills in a specialized environment. For families in جدة, the championship offers a rare opportunity to watch young athletes from across the region compete in a fast-growing water sport.

The event highlights the Kingdom's growing role in hosting regional sporting competitions and supporting youth participation in marine sports along the البحر الأحمر coast.
