The Saudi Central Bank has raised its benchmark interest rates in a decision announced in mid-September 2026, lifting the repo rate to 4.50% and the reverse repo rate to 4.00%. Both rates were increased by 25 basis points from their previous levels of 4.25% and 3.75%, and the change took effect immediately for Saudi Riyal liquidity operations.
Under the current policy framework, the repo rate serves as the ceiling of the overnight corridor, while the reverse repo rate acts as the floor. The two rates apply to SAR-denominated overnight lending and deposit facilities between Saudi banks and the Saudi Central Bank. The previous corridor of 4.25% / 3.75% is no longer in force; the current corridor of 4.50% / 4.00% remains in place until a new policy decision is announced.
What it means for residents
These are interbank policy rates, not retail product prices, and individuals do not pay any fees to "use" repo or reverse repo facilities. However, retail SAR product pricing — such as personal loans, mortgages and credit cards — is set by each commercial bank and typically adjusts in line with changes to the repo corridor. Customers may therefore notice movements in borrowing costs over time.
Access to these facilities happens directly between banks and the Saudi Central Bank. No e-government portals are involved in the process. Current official rates and any future changes are published on the Saudi Central Bank's website under its monetary policy tools.
