Saudi Bank Deposits Rise 2.7% in Q2 2026

Deposits at Saudi banks climbed to approximately SAR 3,131.8 billion by the end of the second quarter of 2026, an increase of 2.7% compared with the previous quarter and 8.9% higher than a year earlier,

The rise was driven mainly by time and savings deposits, which reached about SAR 1,375.4 billion, up 10.6% quarter-on-quarter. Demand deposits, meanwhile, eased 3.8% to around SAR 1,447.3 billion, reflecting a shift by depositors toward interest-bearing accounts.

Bank credit also continued to expand, reaching roughly SAR 3,419.3 billion, an increase of 7.3% year-on-year. Among the ten largest listed banks, net loans and advances grew 1.8% during the quarter, while deposits at those banks rose a faster 2.7%.

Why it matters

Because deposits grew more quickly than lending at the largest banks, the aggregate loan-to-deposit ratio eased from 104.1% to 103.1%. A lower ratio suggests banks are building a stronger funding base relative to their lending, which typically supports stability in the financial system.
