Saudi banks' total deposits rose to approximately SAR 3,131.8 billion at the end of the second quarter of 2026, marking a 2.7% increase compared with the previous quarter and an 8.9% rise year-on-year. The figures point to continued strength in the Kingdom's banking sector alongside steady growth in lending.
Bank credit expanded 7.3% year-on-year to reach around SAR 3,419.3 billion, reflecting sustained demand for financing across the economy. Among the ten largest listed Saudi banks, net loans and advances grew 1.8% quarter-on-quarter, while their combined loan-to-deposit ratio eased by one percentage point to 103.1%.
The composition of deposits shifted notably during the quarter. Time and savings deposits climbed 10.6% quarter-on-quarter to about SAR 1,375.4 billion, indicating a stronger appetite for interest-bearing accounts. In contrast, demand deposits fell 3.8% quarter-on-quarter to around SAR 1,447.3 billion.
Why it matters
For residents and businesses across Riyadh, Jeddah and beyond, the numbers signal a robust and liquid banking system capable of supporting personal financing, mortgages and corporate lending. The rise in time and savings deposits also suggests households and companies are placing more funds in longer-term accounts, a sign of confidence in the sector's stability.
