Saudi Border Guard patrols arrested four individuals and seized a total of 102 kilograms of khat during separate operations in the Asir and Jazan regions.
20 kilograms of khat were confiscated in Asir, while 82 kilograms were seized in Jazan. Authorities said the four suspects arrested in connection with the operations were Yemeni nationals.
Initial legal procedures were completed, after which the seized items and the suspects were handed over to the competent authority to continue the necessary measures.
Why it matters
Khat is a banned substance in Saudi Arabia, and border regions in the south of the Kingdom remain a focus of anti-smuggling efforts. Operations like these are part of ongoing work to secure the borders and prevent the entry of prohibited goods.
Residents are reminded that possessing, using, or trafficking banned substances carries serious legal consequences. Authorities encourage the public to report smuggling activity or suspicious movement near border areas through official security channels.
