Civil Defense Lifts Emergency Alerts in Southern Regions

Saudi Civil Defense has lifted all emergency alerts for the southern and southwestern regions following temporary warnings of potential danger issued for Jazan Region, Najran Region, Khamis Mushait Governorate, and the city of Abha in Asir Region.

The alerts were sent and later cancelled through the National Early Warning Platform for Emergencies, which uses cell-broadcast messages carrying a distinctive alarm sound delivered directly to mobile phones — including devices set to silent mode. In recent incidents, the all-clear messages were typically issued within minutes of the initial warning, once Civil Defense confirmed the danger had passed.

Alerts in these areas have recently been linked to security and aerial threats, including ballistic missile and drone attacks affecting cities such as Abha, Khamis Mushait, Jazan, and Najran. Each alert is short and incident-based, remaining active only until Civil Defense issues a "danger has passed" or "all clear" follow-up message via the platform and official social media accounts.

Safety instructions for residents

During an alert, residents in affected southern areas are advised to move to a safe indoor location away from windows, avoid gathering in crowds, and refrain from filming or photographing incident sites — even after the all-clear. Residents should continue following Civil Defense instructions after alerts are lifted.

In an emergency, residents can call 998 for Civil Defense assistance, while other numbers such as 911 in some regions cover broader emergency services. These are public-safety notifications only, with no fees for receiving, responding to, or complying with the alerts. The primary channels used remain the National Early Warning Platform and Civil Defense's official social media accounts.
