Residents of Al-Baha Region have been advised to exercise caution after the National Center for Meteorology (NCM) issued a weather alert warning of moderate rain, strong winds, low horizontal visibility and the risk of flash flooding, with conditions expected to continue until the evening on the same day.
The alert covers Al-Baha city and several governorates and municipalities across the region, including areas such as Al-Aqiq, Al-Mandaq, Baljurashi, Al-Makhwah and Qilwah. Expected phenomena include active winds, near lack of visibility at times, hail, and torrential rains that can lead to runoff in valleys and low-lying areas. Alert windows are typically same-day multi-hour periods, often running from around midday until the evening.
What the color codes mean
The NCM early-warning system uses color-coded levels. Green indicates normal conditions, while yellow flags light to moderate events. Orange covers more severe weather such as moderate to heavy rain, strong winds and possible flash floods, and red is the highest level for severe weather including thunderstorms and torrential rains. Every alert specifies the affected area, the expected phenomena, and clear start and end times.
Alerts are shared through the official NCM website early-warning pages, the NCM mobile apps and push notifications, SMS and cell broadcasts, and official social media channels, with integration into national platforms such as توكلنا where enabled. These weather alerts are public and completely free — there are no service fees associated with them.
For the community, the guidance is straightforward: avoid crossing valleys and flooded roads, keep a safe distance from low-lying areas during heavy rain, reduce speed and turn on lights when visibility drops, and follow official updates as conditions change through the day.
