Cricket Grows Across Saudi Arabia in 2026

Cricket is drawing ever-larger numbers of players across Saudi Arabia, with South Asian communities continuing to build on decades of community matches and local leagues. In 2026, the sport reached a new milestone as the National Cricket Championship expanded nationwide, reflecting its growing popularity among residents.

Communities from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka have organized informal games and neighborhood leagues in the Kingdom for many years. That grassroots energy now feeds into a far larger structure: the 2026 championship grew to 14 regional associations, 405 teams, 1,160 matches, and 101 grounds across the country.

Nearly 7,500 players took part in the 2026 edition, including teams drawn from expatriate communities. Play is concentrated in Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam, Khobar, Yanbu, and other major cities, where regional associations and the national federation help coordinate tournaments.

A deep community network

The scale of local organizing is significant. More than 80 Sri Lankan community cricket clubs operate across the Kingdom, while Yanbu alone has around 25 registered teams competing under the Yanbu Cricket Association. These clubs give newcomers a quick way to join matches, meet neighbors, and stay active on weekends.

For residents, the expansion matters beyond the scoreboard. Community cricket offers a familiar pastime, a social anchor for families far from home, and a shared activity that brings different nationalities together on the same pitch. As regional associations continue to grow, more players are expected to find organized opportunities close to where they live and work.
