Jeddah hosted the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega-auction over two days, on 24 and 25 November 2024, drawing the attention of cricket fans across the region. The event took place at Abady Al-Johar Arena, also known as Benchmark Arena.
The auction brought together 574 shortlisted players, selected from an initial registration pool of 1,574 players. It was a closed franchise event, where teams competed to secure players for the upcoming season, rather than a public gathering. No public admission fee or ticket price was announced for the auction.
As a private league activity, the event did not involve any Saudi government procedures or fees. Player bidding was handled entirely within the league's own framework and had no connection to local administrative channels.
Hosting a high-profile international cricket event underlines Jeddah's growing role as a destination for global sporting occasions. For the city's large community of residents and expats, including many cricket enthusiasts, the auction offered a notable moment to follow one of the world's most-watched leagues from close to home.
It is worth noting that the IPL 2026 auction is not scheduled to take place in Jeddah. Based on currently available information, the 2026 edition is set to be held in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. No new Jeddah auction date, Saudi venue, or related arrangement for 2026 has been confirmed.
