Saudi Arabia's national cricket team has taken a significant step forward in its journey toward the 2028 Men's T20 World Cup, winning the 2026 ICC Men's T20 World Cup Asia Sub-Regional Qualifier B held in Malaysia. The team claimed the title with five consecutive victories.
The result secured Saudi Arabia a place in the 2027 Asia Regional Final qualifying pathway, moving the program one stage closer to a potential appearance at the sport's premier short-format tournament. The qualifier matches were played in Malaysia.
Building a long-term program
Beyond the recent results, Saudi Arabia's cricket federation says it is focused on continued player development, technical programs, upgraded infrastructure, and more international competition. The aim is to strengthen the national setup and give players regular exposure to high-level matches.
Part of the development planning includes a proposed international-standard cricket stadium in Jeddah. The project remains under planning, and an operating venue, opening date, ticket prices, and match timings have not yet been confirmed.
For Saudi Arabia's large cricket-following community, including many residents and expats across Riyadh, Jeddah, and Dammam, the qualifying success offers a reason for optimism. A growing competitive program and the prospect of a world-class venue could expand access to the sport locally and bring more international fixtures to the Kingdom in the years ahead.
