The Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee has discussed cooperation with the World Baseball Softball Confederation to expand baseball across the Kingdom, with a focus on initiatives set to advance in October 2026.
The talks covered a broad development roadmap, including teaching baseball in schools, integrating the Baseball5 format, building national teams, and organizing tournaments and leagues. Plans also include training programs for coaches and referees, along with the construction of new regulation playing fields.
Baseball in Saudi Arabia is overseen by the Saudi Baseball and Softball Federation, which was established in December 2019. Momentum has grown in recent years, with a baseball-field agreement for الدرعية signed in 2023, and a 2024 partnership with Baseball United covering talent development, training programs, and potential franchises in الرياض, جدة, and الدمام.
Why it matters
For residents and expats, the push signals more opportunities to play and watch a sport that is still emerging locally. Expanding school instruction and grassroots formats like Baseball5 could introduce the game to younger players, while new fields and leagues would give communities in major cities more places to take part.
The combined focus on coaching, officiating, and infrastructure points to a long-term effort to build a sustainable baseball community in the Kingdom, aligned with wider national ambitions to diversify sporting options for families and athletes alike.
