Grassroots Cricket Grows to 80+ Clubs in Saudi Arabia

Grassroots cricket continues to grow across Saudi Arabia, with more than 80 community clubs now active in cities and towns around the Kingdom. The sport is organized under the Saudi Arabian Cricket Federation, the official governing body, which supports a growing network of players, grounds, and training programs.

Federation-linked figures point to a wider structure of 370 registered clubs, 107 grounds, two academies, and 15 regional associations. Community cricket programs are already running in Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam, and Yanbu, while federation academies operate in Riyadh, Jeddah, and Dammam.

How community clubs work

One example of local activity is the KAUST Cricket Club in Thuwal, near Jeddah, which plays at Astro-2 near the Racquet Club. Sessions are held on Tuesdays from 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Annual membership costs SAR 100, with the membership year running from 1 October through 30 September, while non-members can join club events for SAR 50.

Access to the KAUST club is generally limited to the KAUST community, approved service providers, graduates, and eligible employees, reflecting how many grassroots clubs operate within specific residential or workplace communities.

For residents and expats looking to take up the sport, the expansion means more opportunities to play recreationally close to home. There is no verified nationwide registration fee or unified booking system for grassroots cricket, and participation does not require any government app procedure. Interested players are advised to contact their nearest local club directly for schedules, fees, and eligibility.
