Saudi Arabia is a large country, and flying is often the fastest and most comfortable way to move between its major cities and regions. Whether you're commuting between the capital and the coast, heading to a holy city, or exploring heritage destinations, the Kingdom's domestic network has expanded significantly in recent years. This guide from سعودي ليفنج breaks down the airlines, the main hubs, the busiest routes, and practical tips for booking domestic flights.
Which airlines fly domestic routes?
Four carriers currently operate scheduled domestic flights across the Kingdom, giving travellers a healthy mix of full-service and low-cost options:
- الخطوط السعودية — the national flag carrier, with the most extensive domestic network connecting Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam, Abha, Tabuk, Jizan, Najran, Medina, Qassim and many other regional airports, alongside its international routes.
- طيران ناس — a well-established low-cost carrier covering the busiest city-pairs and a wide spread of regional destinations.
- flyadeal — a budget airline operating from bases in Riyadh, Jeddah and Dammam to at least 15 Saudi destinations.
- Riyadh Air — the newest entrant, which launched its first domestic service in 2026.
The main domestic hubs
Three airports anchor the domestic network, each serving dozens of routes across the country:
- الرياض — مطار الملك خالد الدولي (RUH)
- جدة — مطار الملك عبدالعزيز الدولي (JED)
- الدمام — King Fahd International Airport (DMM)
As of August 2026, the Kingdom had around 140 domestic routes, with roughly 28 airports offering scheduled domestic flights — nine of which handle domestic traffic only. That means smaller regional cities are increasingly well connected, not just the big three.
The busiest routes
If you want frequent departures and plenty of choice, these city-pairs see the highest traffic and the most daily flights:
- Riyadh–Jeddah
- Riyadh–Dammam
- Jeddah–Dammam
- Riyadh–Madinah
- Riyadh–AlUla
On these corridors you'll often find multiple carriers competing, which usually means better timing options and more competitive fares.
Growing regional connectivity
Beyond the main hubs, the low-cost carriers have been steadily adding routes to smaller cities. flyadeal alone serves destinations including Abha, Al Bahah, Al Hofuf, Bisha, Jizan, Hail, Madinah, Najran, Neom, Qassim, Tabuk, Taif and Yanbu.
- From Madinah (MED): flyadeal expanded in March 2026 with new nonstop routes to Jazan (GIZ), Qassim (ELQ) and Arar (ARM), bringing its non-stop destinations from Madinah to ten.
- From Dammam (DMM): flyadeal alone operates at least 14 domestic routes, including services to Najran, Yanbu and Tabuk — on top of the routes flown by other carriers.
Riyadh Air's entry
The Kingdom's newest airline, Riyadh Air, launched its first domestic route between Riyadh (RUH) and Jeddah (JED) in June 2026. It started with two daily flights, increased to three daily from 18 June 2026, and moved to four daily from 2 July 2026 — a sign of how quickly the flagship route can absorb added capacity.
What to expect on fares
Prices on the busiest low-cost routes such as Riyadh–Jeddah or Riyadh–Dammam are generally affordable when booked in advance, but fares climb closer to departure and around holiday peaks. To get the best value:
- Book early, especially around Eid, school holidays and long weekends.
- Compare full-service and low-cost carriers — sometimes the flag carrier is competitive once baggage is included.
- Check what's bundled: low-cost fares often exclude checked bags and seat selection.
- Be flexible with times; early-morning and late-evening departures are usually cheaper.
For exact schedules, current fares and baggage rules, always confirm directly with the airline you're booking with before you travel.
Practical travel tips
- Carry valid ID — your national ID or residency permit for domestic travel.
- Arrive with enough time for security, particularly at the busy main hubs.
- Download your airline's app for check-in, boarding passes and flight updates.
- Consider the smaller domestic-only airports if you're heading to a regional city — they can be quicker and closer to your destination.
