Preparatory and early construction work for Expo 2030 Riyadh is progressing as of 2026, with infrastructure and site-development contracts awarded and earthworks and utility corridors already underway in the Saudi capital. The six-month event is scheduled to run from 1 October 2030 to 31 March 2031.
The project is being delivered by Expo Riyadh 2030 Company (ERC), wholly owned by the Public Investment Fund. Economic modelling projects that the construction phase and its legacy development will contribute around USD 64 billion (about SAR 240 billion) to Saudi GDP and generate approximately 171,000 direct and indirect jobs over the programme lifecycle. Some 2026 analyses cite a higher total impact of USD 67–70 billion once operational and long-term legacy effects are included, while keeping the 171,000 jobs estimate for the construction phase.
Separate modelling puts total gross value added at about SAR 190 billion across planning, construction, operation, and post-Expo urban district phases. Committed public expenditure has been reported at around SAR 40 billion, alongside an anticipated SAR 25 billion in private investment for the wider programme.
Progress and workforce
As of the first half of 2026, reported construction progress at the Expo site stands at around 28% of total scope, with an on-site workforce of roughly 45,000 workers. Peak labour demand is currently estimated at between 50,000 and 70,000 workers during certain stages of the programme.
The event itself is expected to attract around 40 million visitors and participation from about 190–195 countries. For residents and businesses, the scale points to sustained demand in construction, services, hospitality, and logistics over the coming years. Employment, business participation, and contracting opportunities are channeled through Expo Riyadh 2030 Company and standard national investment and procurement systems, with no Expo-specific fee schedules or visa categories publicly detailed in 2026 beyond existing Saudi procedures.
