Saudi Sports Economy Set to Reach SAR 85bn by 2030

Saudi Arabia's sports sector is emerging as a fast-growing pillar of the national economy, valued at approximately SAR 32 billion in 2026 and projected to reach around SAR 84–85 billion by 2030, with large-scale investment in sports infrastructure positioned as the main driver.

A significant share of the planned spending is tied to the 2034 FIFA World Cup, which Saudi Arabia will host. Preparations include building 11 new stadiums and renovating four existing venues across the Kingdom — an effort expected to reshape the country's sporting landscape and create long-term facilities for residents and visitors.

Central to the expansion is Qiddiya City, located roughly 45 km southwest of central Riyadh, which is planned as a major sports and entertainment hub. Among its facilities are a national tennis centre featuring 30 courts and a Formula 1 circuit, underlining the ambition to attract global events and audiences.

Eastern Province investment

In the Eastern Province, a Dammam Sports City project has announced investment of up to SAR 1 billion, while sports events linked to the project were estimated to involve around SAR 15 million in investment during 2026. The developments signal that growth is extending beyond Riyadh to other regions.

The Public Investment Fund has projected that the Saudi sports sector could exceed USD 22 billion — approximately SAR 82.5 billion — by 2030, reflecting confidence in the pace of expansion.

For residents and expats, the investment promises new venues, more international sporting events, and expanding opportunities in jobs, hospitality and tourism tied to the growing sports economy. At this stage, no official entry fees, booking procedures, or operating hours have been confirmed for the named projects.
