Travelers across Saudi Arabia faced widespread flight disruptions from 10 October 2026, affecting the Kingdom's three busiest airports: مطار الملك خالد الدولي in الرياض, مطار الملك عبدالعزيز الدولي in جدة, and King Fahd International Airport in الدمام.
The الرياض airport was hit hardest. Records showed 655 cancellations on 11 October, followed by 436 additional cancellation listings on 12 October. Airport operations there were temporarily suspended to allow for safety and operational-readiness inspections.
In جدة, 158 flights were cancelled and 393 delayed on 11 October, with a further 115 cancellations recorded on 12 October. The الدمام airport logged 58 cancellations and 115 delays on 11 October, then 63 cancellations the following day.
Why this matters
With schools, businesses and families relying heavily on domestic and international connections between the three cities, the scale of cancellations and delays has disrupted travel plans for thousands of residents and visitors. Those with upcoming trips should expect continued knock-on effects as airlines work to rebook passengers and restore normal schedules.
At this stage, there is no confirmed unified rebooking procedure, compensation amount, or fee arrangement specific to these disruptions. Passengers are strongly advised to check directly with their operating airline for the status of individual flights and for instructions on rebooking or refunds, and to follow updates from the General Authority of Civil Aviation for official guidance before heading to the airport.
