For anyone living in Saudi Arabia, أبشر (Absher) is the single most important digital tool you'll use. It's the Ministry of Interior's main portal and app, and it handles the everyday paperwork that keeps your residency in order — from renewing your Iqama to arranging travel and updating your passport details. The best part is that most resident tasks are completed entirely online, without a single in-person visit. This Saudi Living guide walks you through setting up your account and using the services every resident actually needs.
Getting started: create your account
Setting up an أبشر account is free. Creating the account, enrolling in نفاذ (Nafath), and activating your profile at a kiosk all carry no charge. نفاذ is the national identity-verification channel used to log in securely to Saudi government digital services, including أبشر, so enrolling in it is an essential first step.
- Download the official app or open the web portal.
- Register using your Iqama number and personal details.
- Verify your identity through نفاذ.
- Activate the account (kiosk activation is free where required).
Once active, you'll unlock a dashboard covering nearly every residency service you'll need.
Renewing your Iqama
Iqama renewal is the service residents use most. In practice, the underlying government renewal fee is usually filed by your employer through مقيم (Muqeem), while أبشر adds a processing charge on the resident transaction. For 2026, the Absher processing fee for most standard Iqama transactions is SAR 51.75, added on top of the government fee.
The underlying residency fees vary by category, for example:
- Company and establishment employee residency renewal: SAR 650.
- Professional individual residency renewal: SAR 600.
- Domestic worker residency issuance for individuals: SAR 600.
- Companion residency issuance or renewal after age 18: SAR 500.
Domestic worker Iqama renewal can now be issued for flexible periods ranging from 3 months to 24 months through أبشر. Keep an eye on late-payment penalties and employer-side levies, which can apply and vary by service and worker category — always confirm the exact amount before you file.
Travel: exit/re-entry and final exit visas
If you're planning to travel abroad and return, you'll issue an exit/re-entry visa through أبشر. The standard fees for 2026 are:
- Single exit-and-re-entry visa: SAR 200 for two months, plus SAR 100 for each additional month.
- Multiple exit-and-re-entry visa: SAR 500 for up to three months, plus SAR 200 for each additional month.
- Extending an exit/re-entry visa: SAR 103.50.
When you're leaving the Kingdom permanently, you'll issue a final exit visa. The government fee here is SAR 0, though some transactions may still display an Absher processing or service line item before you confirm payment.
Passport, profession and reports
Beyond travel, أبشر handles several key administrative updates:
- Updating passport information: SAR 69 — do this promptly whenever you renew your passport.
- Requesting an employee report: SAR 28.75.
- Occupation / profession change: SAR 1,000.
Keeping your passport details synced with your Iqama record is important, since mismatched information can cause problems at borders and with other services.
Digital Iqama and electronic authorization
Your Digital Iqama inside أبشر is treated as sufficient for routine identification in most day-to-day government and service situations, so you don't always need to carry the physical card. The platform also supports electronic authorization, which lets you delegate certain services to others. This feature was expanded in August 2026 to cover 23 services, with tightened rules introduced the same month — so review the current terms before authorizing anyone.
Staying current in 2026
أبشر is updated regularly, and 2026 brought fresh additions, including four new e-services launched in February 2026. Because fees, service lists and rules change, always confirm the latest figures and requirements on the official portal before you pay. Account setup and routine inquiries remain free, so there's no cost to log in and check your status whenever you need to.
