Community and volunteer groups across Saudi Arabia are joining tree-planting and vegetation-support activities tied to newly funded Saudi Green Initiative projects, with registration open to residents through official government platforms at no cost.
Volunteers can sign up mainly through the National Volunteer Platform run by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development, the Balady municipal volunteer portal run by municipalities and the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs and Housing, and the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture volunteering page, which directs applicants to register on the national platform before joining afforestation and vegetation-cover projects.
How to take part
Registration is fully online. Volunteers create an account, then apply to listed opportunities such as participation in afforestation, tree planting, or greening parks. Participation is free — there is no planting or registration fee — and opportunities are usually open to both genders aged 15 and above, with no educational qualification required for basic planting roles. Activities are in-person only, so volunteers must attend the specified park, housing project, or municipal site.
Durations vary by campaign. Examples currently listed for the 2025 seasons include a one-day afforestation activity at a housing development worth five volunteer hours, an eight-day tree-planting campaign in the Al-Jouf region under the "Al-Jouf Green Oasis" initiative totalling five hours, and a four-day park-greening opportunity totalling three hours. One featured opportunity focuses on planting trees in the parks and streets of a developmental housing project to improve the urban environment.
Each opportunity is valid only for its announced dates, such as specific periods in August or October 2025. Once the campaign ends, the listing closes and volunteer hours are recorded in the platform. For the community, these activities offer a simple, free way to contribute to greener neighbourhoods while building recognised volunteer records.
