Jazan Region has cemented its position as Saudi Arabia's leading producer of tropical fruits, accounting for the largest share of the Kingdom's mango output and a growing volume of papayas, bananas, guavas, and figs.
The region is home to more than one million mango trees that yield roughly 65,000 tons annually, representing around 60% of national mango production. Beyond mangoes, Jazan's fertile southern climate supports a wide variety of tropical crops rarely grown elsewhere in the country.
Official summaries have reported the region's tropical fruit output at about 107,305 tons annually, while more recent figures place production at over 113,702 tons across more than 20,321 farms. Together these farms contain nearly 3.3 million fruit trees, underscoring the scale of agriculture in the area.
Investment and growth
To build on this momentum, the sector has been linked to a new tropical fruits and greenhouses project valued at SAR 600 million, covering an area of one million square meters. The initiative is expected to expand production capacity and introduce modern farming techniques.
For residents and shoppers across Riyadh, Jeddah, and beyond, Jazan's harvest means locally grown mangoes and tropical fruits reaching markets each season, supporting food supply and offering fresh, homegrown produce. The region's agricultural strength also creates jobs and reinforces rural livelihoods in the south of the Kingdom.
