Jeddah Hosts International Sports-Science Conference

The University of Jeddah hosted an international sports-science conference on 18–19 May 2022, gathering experts and specialists to examine the growing links between sport, economy, health, and modern lifestyles. The event was titled Sports Sciences: Economy, Health, Lifestyle.

The conference drew participants from across the world, though figures on the number of participating nations differ between reports: one account cites 19 countries, while a later event tag lists 29 nations. Either way, the gathering reflected broad international interest in the Kingdom's expanding sports sector.

Discussions covered a wide range of themes, including sports governance, women's sports, artificial intelligence, digital transformation, the relationship between sport and health, and investment opportunities in the sector. Speakers also connected these topics to the goals of Vision 2030, which places sport and active living at the heart of national development.

Why it matters

For residents across Jeddah, Riyadh, and beyond, the conference highlighted how sport is increasingly viewed not only as physical activity but as a driver of economic growth, public health, and quality of life. The focus on women's sports and technology such as artificial intelligence pointed to the broader modernization shaping the community.

A separate sports-science conference is scheduled to take place in Jeddah on 9–17 January 2027. However, verified registration details, fees, and official procedures for that upcoming event are not yet available. Saudi Living will share confirmed information once it is officially announced.
