KACST, Pasqal Launch Quantum Research Deal in Riyadh

King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST) and the technology firm Pasqal signed a strategic research collaboration agreement in Riyadh on August 31, 2026, aimed at advancing quantum computing and related technologies in Saudi Arabia. The agreement was concluded through KACST's National Center for Quantum Technologies.

The collaboration sets out a multi-year program of research and development in advanced quantum technologies. Its first focus area is quantum cryptography, with the two sides working to develop, test, and package quantum-safe cryptographic solutions tailored to the Saudi market.

The research work is to be carried out at KACST's National Center for Quantum Technologies, drawing on Pasqal's neutral-atom quantum processing technology and its cloud services. This approach is intended to give local researchers hands-on access to advanced quantum tools and infrastructure.

Why it matters

Quantum computing is expected to reshape how sensitive data is secured in the years ahead, and "quantum-safe" cryptography is designed to protect information against future quantum-powered attacks. By focusing first on this area, the collaboration targets a practical need for banks, government services, and businesses that rely on strong data protection.
