Water Research Community concludes with 12 deals

The seventh edition of the Water Research Community concluded in Riyadh after two days of sessions held at King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST). The event was organized by the Saudi Water Authority, through its Water Technologies Innovation Institute and Research Advancements, in cooperation with KACST, running from September 29 to September 30, 2026.

The gathering brought together around 400 participants, including researchers, experts, government representatives, universities, research centers, and industry figures from inside the Kingdom and abroad. By its close, the event had produced 12 signed agreements and received 130 research proposals.

Among the key outcomes was a cooperation arrangement with the Council of Universities' Affairs, alongside an agreement with Qassim University to establish a joint research laboratory at the Water Innovation Oasis in Rabigh. Research groups were also launched for Umm Al-Qura University and the University of Tabuk at the same oasis.

To support implementation, grants of up to SAR 2 million were allocated to eight academic and research entities. Discussions over the two days centered on four main themes: materials science, technology integration, digital intelligence, and business models.

Why it matters

Water security remains a priority across the Kingdom, and initiatives like this one aim to connect universities, research centers, and industry around practical solutions. For communities in Riyadh, Jeddah, and beyond, strengthening local water research can help improve the sustainability and reliability of water services over the long term.
