Authorities in Riyadh have shut down an unauthorized e-commerce training operation running out of the Al-Batha district, following a joint field-enforcement effort involving the Ministry of Commerce, the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development, and Riyadh Region Police.
The facility trained workers on how to establish and operate online stores without holding the required licenses. Each participant paid SAR 300 in exchange for what was promoted as an alleged international e-commerce certificate.
The operation was run by a foreign investor together with two residents. a number of the participating foreign workers had left their sponsors without authorization.
As part of the enforcement action, violating workers were detained, and the two resident operators were referred to the relevant authorities. The foreign investor was referred to the وزارة الاستثمار for the applicable legal procedures and prescribed penalties.
Why it matters
Unlicensed training and business activities carry real risks for residents and workers, who may pay fees for services or certificates that hold no official standing. The case is a reminder that commercial and training activities in the Kingdom require proper licensing, and that workers should ensure their employment status is fully in order with their sponsors.
Community members are encouraged to verify that any training provider or commercial operator is properly licensed before paying fees or enrolling.
