Makkah Unveils New Public Squares and Walkways

Makkah is enhancing its urban identity through a series of new public squares and pedestrian walkways designed to raise the quality of life for both residents and visitors. The improvements aim to make the city more welcoming, walkable and comfortable for daily use.

The new public spaces and pedestrian routes are intended to give residents and visitors better places to gather, move around and enjoy the city's environment. By prioritising walkability, the initiative encourages people to explore Makkah on foot in safer and more comfortable surroundings.

Why it matters

For the many residents and visitors who spend time in Makkah, well-designed public squares and walkways can make a meaningful difference to daily life. Pedestrian-friendly areas typically ease movement, create shaded and comfortable gathering points, and strengthen the character and identity of the city.

The focus on urban identity reflects a broader effort across Saudi cities to improve public spaces and make them more livable. For families, workers and visitors alike, these enhancements are set to offer more welcoming areas to walk, rest and connect within the city.
