Saudi Arabia is advancing a wide portfolio of development projects in Makkah aimed at expanding accommodation, upgrading infrastructure, and creating integrated mixed-use destinations across the city.
Among the flagship efforts are Masar Destination and Jabal Omar, alongside district-regeneration programs and improved utilities. Seven developed-district sites span more than 4.4 million square meters across the areas of Jarham, Al-Khalidiyah, Al-Hajlah, Al-Hindawiyah, and Al-Zohour, with announced investment exceeding SAR 16.3 billion.
In addition, six awarded plots cover more than 2.7 million square meters and involve around SAR 13.3 billion in investment. Planners are also developing Masar Gardens, a mixed-use destination of roughly 1.2 million square meters, with initial infrastructure and land investment of approximately SAR 6 billion over a planned five-year development period.
A further mixed-use project is being advanced on Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz Road (Al-Hada Road) in Makkah through a public-private partnership, using a 50-year build-own-operate-transfer model.
Why it matters
For residents and visitors, these projects point to expanded housing, upgraded services, and more integrated facilities in Makkah over the coming years. The combined investment reflects a broader push to diversify the local economy and support long-term growth in line with national development goals. No visitor fees, service charges, or application steps have been specified for these projects.
