Not Telling Job Applicants Interview Results Is a Violation

Employers in Saudi Arabia are required to inform every job applicant who attends an interview of the final result — whether accepted or rejected — within a maximum of 30 days from the interview date. Failing to do so is classified as a labor law violation, a rule the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development reiterated publicly in September 2026.

The obligation applies to establishments when they announce job vacancies and conduct interviews. any delay beyond the 30-day limit in notifying applicants of the outcome is a clear breach of the Labor Law and the ministerial decisions that regulate job advertisements and interview procedures.

Employers are also expected to document interview results and retain the records as part of compliance. When a complaint is filed, monetary penalties for non-compliance can reach up to SAR 3,000 The rule covers both acceptance and rejection notifications, and an unjustified delay supports an applicant's right to file a formal grievance or seek compensation if material or moral damage is proven.

How applicants can report

Job seekers who are not notified can submit complaints through the official digital application of the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development on their smartphones. Inside the app, the reporting path is: select "Labor Law Violations," then "General Obligations," then the specific violation for an establishment's failure to comply with rules on job vacancy announcements and interview procedures.

In appropriate cases, complaints can be escalated after using the ministry's channels through administrative judicial routes, including the Board of Grievances, following normal grievance procedures. The move gives residents and expats greater clarity when applying for jobs, and pushes employers toward more transparent hiring practices across the Kingdom.
