Prince Rakan bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud has been appointed Governor of Diriyah Governorate, with the appointment taking effect on 12 February 2026. He holds the post at the excellent (ministerial) rank.
Since taking up the role, Prince Rakan has continued to lead the governorate through 2026, chairing official meetings in Diriyah in May 2026 and overseeing his office's activities in subsequent months.
Why it matters
Diriyah holds a distinctive place in the Kingdom as a historic district and a growing cultural and tourism destination. Leadership at the governorate level plays a central role in coordinating local administration, official engagements, and community-facing work across the area.
For residents of Diriyah and the wider Riyadh region, the confirmation of the governor and his continued official activity offers clarity on who oversees the governorate's administrative affairs. Saudi Living will share further updates on developments affecting the community as they become available.
