Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University and the General Authority for Sports signed a memorandum of understanding in November 2016 to activate the university's sports facilities and expand opportunities for women to take part in sport across Saudi Arabia.
The agreement covered a wide range of venues and activities, including sports halls, a stadium, and facilities for basketball, volleyball, football, aerobics, cycling and general fitness. It also included an Olympic-standard swimming pool, giving students and participants access to professional-level amenities on campus.
Why it matters
The partnership was aimed at supporting healthy lifestyles and encouraging greater participation by women in physical activity and organized sport. By opening up well-equipped facilities, the initiative helped lay groundwork for women's sports to grow within the Kingdom.
The move reflected broader efforts to promote wellness and widen access to recreation for women. No fees, application steps, validity period, or booking channel were announced for this specific agreement at the time.
It is worth noting that the General Authority for Sports was later replaced by the Ministry of Sport, and no current procedure tied to this particular agreement has been identified. Residents interested in women's sports programs are encouraged to check with the relevant official bodies for the latest facilities and offerings.
