Jeddah Forum Pushes for Wider University Sports

More than 350 participants from the sports, youth, academic, athletic, and media sectors gathered in Jeddah for a forum focused on developing young athletes and widening sports participation across universities.

The event was organized by the University of Business and Technology in Jeddah, in cooperation with the Saudi Universities Sports Federation, under the theme “Towards More Distinguished and Sustainable University Sports.”

Sessions covered a broad range of topics, including university sports programs, talent discovery and development, sports management, sports media, athlete experiences, sports medicine, and sports culture. Speakers shared practical insights aimed at strengthening how universities nurture athletic talent.

A key message from the forum was the call to open participation to all students, not only elite athletes, and to encourage greater diversity in the sports on offer beyond football. Organizers framed this as a way to build a healthier, more active campus culture that benefits a wider group of young people.

For students, families, and the wider community, the discussion points to a growing focus on grassroots participation and long-term talent development. Expanding access to a range of sports can give more young people the chance to stay active, discover new interests, and pursue athletic goals within a supportive university environment.
