Riyadh Hospital Begins Separation of Fijian Twins

A specialized surgical team in Riyadh began an operation on October 15, 2026, to separate 13-month-old Fijian conjoined twins, Jesepeli and Diceacea, at King Abdullah Specialist Children’s Hospital in King Abdulaziz Medical City.

The complex procedure was planned in nine stages and was expected to take approximately 15 hours. A team of 34 consultants, specialists, technicians, and nurses took part in the operation, which required extensive preparation and coordination across multiple medical disciplines.

The surgery marked the first separation of conjoined twins from Fiji carried out in the Kingdom, and the 74th operation performed under the Saudi Conjoined Twins Program. The twins had arrived in Saudi Arabia on July 21, 2026, ahead of the medical assessments that paved the way for the procedure.

Care at no cost

The operation was provided at no cost to the family through the Saudi Conjoined Twins Program, which has become a well-recognized humanitarian initiative treating cases referred from around the world.

For residents and families across the Kingdom, the case highlights the advanced pediatric and surgical capabilities available in Riyadh, as well as the humanitarian role the program continues to play in bringing specialized care to children from many different countries.
