The Saudi medical charity Al-Balsam completed 112 heart-related procedures in Abuja, Nigeria, during a six-day volunteer campaign held from 13 to 18 October 2026. The effort brought together Saudi and Nigerian medical teams to treat cardiac patients at no cost to those in need.
the procedures included 28 open-heart surgeries and 84 interventional cardiac catheterization procedures. The operations were carried out at Nizamiye Hospital and Zenith Hospital in the Nigerian capital.
The campaign was conducted through the volunteer medical project of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre. Ten Saudi volunteers worked alongside 35 Nigerian medical staff to deliver the surgeries and catheterization procedures within the short timeframe.
Humanitarian medical missions of this kind form part of a broader record of Saudi volunteer healthcare work abroad, delivering specialized treatment to patients who may otherwise face limited access to advanced cardiac care. For the Saudi community, such campaigns reflect the Kingdom's ongoing role in international relief and the contribution of its medical volunteers around the world.
