Riyadh Launches SAR 9.8bn Fourth Phase of Road Axes Program

Work has started on the fourth phase of the Riyadh Main and Ring Road Axes Development Program, a major infrastructure package carried out by the Royal Commission for Riyadh City. The new phase carries a budget of about SAR 9.8 billion and aims to ease traffic across some of the capital's busiest corridors.

The fourth phase covers four projects spanning roughly 40 kilometers of road corridors, with a combined design capacity of more than 950,000 vehicles per day. The scope includes 14 major interchanges, 33 bridges, 5 tunnels, and 6 pedestrian bridges.

The corridors being developed include the southern section of Sheikh Jaber Al Sabah Road (about 12 km, with six intersections, 22 bridges, three tunnels, targeting some 350,000 vehicles/day), and the central section of Prince Turki bin Abdulaziz Al Awwal Road (about 9 km, three intersections, six bridges, two tunnels, up to 200,000 vehicles/day).

Work also covers Prince Mishal bin Abdulaziz Road (about 6 km, two intersections, two bridges, four pedestrian bridges) and the western section of Najmuddin Al Ayoubi Road (about 13 km, three intersections, three bridges, two pedestrian bridges), each targeting around 200,000 vehicles/day.

Why it matters

For residents and commuters, the upgrades are expected to shorten travel times, improve safety at key crossings, and support smoother movement across the city as Riyadh continues to grow. The program is a capital infrastructure project and does not introduce new tolls tied specifically to these corridors. Residents can reach the Royal Commission for Riyadh City for inquiries through the unified call center on 19998.
