Saudi Arabia has officially launched the Riyadh Action Agenda Community Platform, a global digital hub aimed at supporting climate and sustainability initiatives. The launch took place in August 2026 during a side event at the Saudi pavilion at the UNCCD COP17 conference held in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.
The platform brings together verifiable, results-oriented initiatives focused on three main areas: land restoration, drought and water resilience, and agrifood systems. It provides a shared framework for partners to set objectives and track progress toward measurable milestones.
The Riyadh Action Agenda carries ambitious global goals, including the restoration of 1.5 billion hectares of degraded land by 2030 — of which 250 million hectares are degraded agricultural land — alongside boosting drought and water resilience by conserving 30% of lands and inland waters. The agenda also aims to mobilize around US$2.1 trillion in investments toward these targets.
As of COP17, the Community Platform coordinates around 200 international initiatives linked to the agenda, a significant expansion from roughly 35 to 40 initiatives at COP16 and about 100 by 2025 and 2026. The platform offers a dedicated digital space for government bodies, private sector organizations, financial institutions, research entities, local communities, and civil society to share knowledge and build partnerships.
Joining the community involves two main steps carried out online: registering an initiative or commitment that contributes to land restoration and drought resilience goals, then providing details on objectives, activities, and measurable outcomes so progress can be tracked within a global dashboard. Participation is global and voluntary, with no published fees or subscription charges, and it complements formal negotiations rather than acting as a regulatory tool.
For residents and organizations across the Kingdom, the platform reflects Saudi Arabia's growing role in coordinating international efforts on land and water sustainability, and opens the door for local entities to contribute to a worldwide movement.
