Saudi Arabia Named Formula E Best Host Country

Saudi Arabia has been named the first-ever recipient of Formula E's newly created "Best Host Country" award, announced during the end-of-season awards ceremony for the 2025/26 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship held in London in 2026.

The award recognizes the Kingdom's standards in event delivery, infrastructure, and partnership in staging electric racing events. It is closely tied to Saudi Arabia's role as a long-term host of the Diriyah E-Prix, along with its broader motorsport facilities, including the Diriyah circuit and the Jeddah Corniche Circuit.

The Diriyah E-Prix takes place in Historic Diriyah, in Riyadh Province, under a ten-year hosting arrangement that began with the 2018–19 Formula E season. The races are typically held over the winter months, most often in January, and run in the evening under floodlights, with race distances and session timings set by the championship organizers.

Why it matters

As of mid-2026, the Diriyah E-Prix continues to feature on the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship race calendar. For residents across Riyadh and beyond, the recognition highlights the Kingdom's growing presence on the global motorsport map and the appeal of hosting major international sporting events close to home.

The evening races in Historic Diriyah have become a fixture of the winter sports season, drawing motorsport fans and families alike, and the new award underscores the long-term investment behind these events.
