Saudi Crude Output Hits 34-Year Low in August

Saudi Arabia's crude oil production dropped sharply in August 2026 to about 6.24 million barrels its lowest level in more than three decades. The figure was formally reported to the OPEC secretariat as part of the organization's monthly report, which recorded output at 6.238 million barrels

The August level marked a decline of roughly 1.9 million barrels a drop of about 23% month-on-month. July production had stood at approximately 8.1 million barrels meaning the August figure set a new multi-decade low following an earlier reduction recorded in April 2026.

The reported output of around 6.24 million barrels making it roughly a 34-year low. The reduction has been linked to regional conflict involving the United States and Iran, with disruptions and threats affecting Saudi export routes and energy infrastructure that constrained production.

Why it matters

Oil remains central to the Saudi economy, and shifts in production levels can carry wide implications for revenues, investment and the broader diversification goals under Saudi Vision 2030. For residents and businesses, energy markets are closely watched given their impact on the wider economic outlook.

The August figures reflect the operational challenges facing the sector amid regional tensions. Saudi Living will continue to follow developments and share verified updates as the situation evolves.
