Saudi Oil Output Rises to 8 Million Barrels Daily

Saudi crude oil production rose to approximately 8 million barrels marking a month-on-month increase of 12.2% and signalling a notable rebound in output.

The figure represents a sharp recovery from August 2026, when production was reported at 6.238 million barrels per day — the lowest level recorded since 1990. A separate reported figure placed September output slightly higher, at around 8.372 million barrels

The latest numbers follow a steep decline earlier in the year. In February 2026, production had been reported at 10.882 million barrels The September uptick points to a reversal of that downward trend.

Why it matters

Oil output remains one of the most closely watched indicators of the Kingdom's economic activity, with direct links to government revenue, large-scale development projects, and the broader diversification goals under Saudi Vision 2030.

For residents and expats, shifts in production levels can influence the wider economic environment, from public spending to employment across the energy sector and related industries. While production figures move month to month based on market conditions and policy decisions, the September increase suggests a stabilising of output after the earlier drop.
