Saudi Crude Supply Hits 3-Decade Low in August

Saudi Arabia's crude supply dropped to about 6 million barrels marking its lowest level in more than three decades, after a monthly decline of roughly 2.3 million barrels. The fall followed a series of disruptions affecting key energy facilities and regional shipping routes.

The decline was linked to attacks and security disruptions touching several vital points, including vessels transiting Bab al‑Mandab, the Jazan refinery, shipping lanes near Yanbu, and the Abqaiq oil processing complex. Observed crude exports during the month came in at around 3 million barrels the lowest reading in at least nine years in available tanker‑tracking records.

Reported output figures for August 2026 ranged between about 6.2 and 6.24 million barrels described as the lowest level in roughly 36 years, or since around 1990, depending on how the figures are measured.

Earlier disruptions this year

Earlier in 2026, attacks on the Manifa and Khurais fields and on East‑West Pipeline infrastructure temporarily cut production capacity by about 600,000 barrels 000 barrels East‑West pipeline capacity was later restored to about 7 million barrels

For residents and businesses across the Kingdom, energy stability is closely tied to the wider economy. While no changes to domestic fuel prices, fees, or e‑government procedures have been reported in connection with the August supply disruption, the scale of the decline underscores the importance of the energy sector to national activity.
