Saudi Arabia's Industrial Production Index (IPI) climbed 10.4% on a monthly basis in July 2026, reaching 101.5 points compared with 91.9 points in June, marking a sharp rebound in the Kingdom's industrial activity.
The monthly gain was driven mainly by the mining and quarrying sub-index, which rose 19% compared with June. Manufacturing activity edged up 1.3%, supported by a 6.5% increase in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products.
Utilities also contributed to the upswing. Electricity, gas, steam and air-conditioning supply activity grew 5.4% month-on-month, while water supply, sewerage, waste management and remediation activities rose 2.6% over the same period.
Despite the strong monthly performance, the annual picture remained negative. The overall index fell 8.1% year-on-year in July 2026, reflecting lower industrial output than in July 2025, with the mining and quarrying sub-index down 10.9% on an annual basis.
Why it matters
The Industrial Production Index is a key gauge of the health of the Kingdom's non-oil and industrial economy, closely watched by businesses, investors, and policymakers. A strong monthly rebound alongside a softer annual trend signals recovery momentum even as year-on-year output stays below prior levels.
The data is published monthly by the General Authority for Statistics through its official statistical portal, with preliminary figures typically released within weeks of the reference month. Access is free and open to the public and private sector, with no registration, fees, or validity periods, and historical time series are available in Excel and PDF formats.
